FAQ
- Is Smash Chess free?
- Yes. It runs in your browser with no download and no account needed while we're testing — play a bot instantly or create a room and send a friend the code.
- Is it real chess?
- Yes — every rule: castling, en passant, promotion (pick your piece), check, checkmate, stalemate, the 50-move rule, threefold repetition and insufficient material. Moves are validated on the server.
- Can I play against the computer?
- Yes. Alone in a room you play a bot: Pawn pusher (easy), Club player (normal) or Grandmaster-ish (hard). Pick your side or let it be random.
- Are there clocks?
- Optional: no clock, 3-minute blitz, 5 or 10 minutes, with a +2 s or +5 s increment. Run out and you lose on time.
- Why do the pieces fight?
- Because it's more fun. A capturing piece marches over, strikes, and the captured piece shatters into shards — checkmate ends with the losing king toppling and exploding.
