Marvel Tōkon Phoenix Cyclops Revealed as First Year 1 DLC Fighter — Fall 2026

Arc System Works named Phoenix Cyclops as Marvel Tōkon's first Year 1 DLC fighter at SDCC — Ray Chase voices, fall 2026, plus anime OP and free Wolverine suit.

Phoenix Cyclops is official: Arc System Works used its San Diego Comic-Con panel — and a same-day PlayStation.Blog recap — to name Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls' first Year 1 DLC fighter. Scott Summers arrives fall 2026 as a Phoenix Five incarnation, voiced by Ray Chase, while the open beta still has hours left on the clock.

bunpav's take: announcing post-launch DLC during beta weekend is classic fighting-game confidence theater — and smart. It tells fence-sitters the August 6 launch is a starting roster, not a finished museum. Pair that with a free Wolverine Battle Reborn suit on September 1 and Tōkon suddenly has a cosmetics calendar through Insomniac's September 15 ship.

Official PlayStation reveal for Phoenix Cyclops, the first Year 1 DLC fighter. Fall 2026 arrival; full game launches August 6.

TL;DR — what people are actually asking

QuestionDirect answer
First Year 1 fighter?Phoenix Cyclops
When?Fall 2026 (no exact day yet)
Voice?Ray Chase
Year 1 pass includes?4 fighters + 1 stage (+ poses)
Free Wolverine suit?Battle Reborn — Sept 1, 2026
Full game launch?August 6, 2026 — PS5 + PC
Beta still on?July 24–26, 2026

What did the SDCC panel actually drop?

Producer Takeshi Yamanaka's PlayStation.Blog post lists four beats that matter to buyers:

  1. Phoenix Cyclops confirmed as first Year 1 additional character
  2. A new anime-style opening from studio Sanzigen, with rock theme vocals by Keiko Terada (SHOW-YA) and mayu (NEMOPHILA)
  3. Insomniac collaboration costumes, including free Wolverine Battle Reborn on September 1
  4. Open beta reminder — plus a late roster bump that Green Goblin joined the beta cast

That is denser than a single character trailer. Arc Sys is selling post-launch support, presentation flex, and Marvel crossover density in one Comic-Con hour.

Who is Phoenix Cyclops in this game?

Yamanaka is explicit: this is not base-roster Scott with a palette swap.

Cyclops is one of Marvel's most iconic X-Men leaders. In MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, however, this version of Cyclops draws inspiration from his Phoenix Five incarnation from Avengers vs. X-Men, sporting a bold new look infused with the fiery cosmic power of the Phoenix Force.

Gameplay promises so far:

  • Signature Optic Blasts
  • Strong hand-to-hand toolkit
  • Phoenix Force heat on top — details "stay tuned"

No frame data, no assist chart, no "this replaces X on the tier list" nonsense yet. Treat the trailer as fantasy confirmation: fire + beams + team-fighter presence. Lab rats will have to wait for the fall patch notes.

Ray Chase voicing the character is continuity candy for Marvel games fans — same performer across Marvel Rivals, X-Men '97, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion. Arc Sys did not invent a new Cyclops voice for one DLC slot.

What is in the Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass?

Pass contentsDetail
FightersFour total — Phoenix Cyclops is #1
StageOne new stage
ExtrasResult-screen character poses
TimingRollout across 2026 and beyond
How to buyBundled in Digital Deluxe ($84.99) and Ultimate ($99.99), or separately after launch

If you already pre-ordered Deluxe/Ultimate for the pass, Phoenix Cyclops is why that upsell exists. If you bought Standard ($59.99), budget a separate Year 1 purchase later — or wait to see whether fighters 2–4 are characters you actually want.

Caveat: "fall 2026" is a wide window. It could mean September adjacent to Wolverine, or a quieter November slot after launch dust settles. Do not schedule a day-one ranking grind around a season that still lacks a calendar row.

Anime opening, Sanzigen, and why presentation matters

Arc Sys leaned hard into early-2000s anime OP energy for the newly revealed opening movie. Production credits from the blog:

Fighting-game openings are culture. A strong OP becomes the YouTube loop that sells the game to people who will never touch ranked. Pairing Marvel IP with Sanzigen's 2.5D craft is Arc Sys saying Tōkon should feel like a weekly anime that also happens to be a 4v4 fighter — not a licensed skin on a generic engine.

Wolverine suit, beta Goblin, and the August 6 runway

Free Battle Reborn — September 1

Yamanaka confirmed the Insomniac crossover suit lands free for all players on September 1, 2026. That matches Insomniac's SDCC messaging from the Wolverine Deep Cuts panel: Tōkon gets Battle Reborn; Wolverine gets a stylized Tōkon-inspired suit day one via an in-game arcade.

Ultimate Edition buyers also get an Advanced Suit 2.0 Spider-Man costume inspired by Marvel's Spider-Man 2 — already announced, restated here as costume philosophy: Arc Sys historically shipped fewer alts; Tōkon is pushing costumes harder.

Green Goblin in the open beta

Originally the beta roster was 15. Arc Sys added Green Goblin for the July 24–26 test. If you already read our beta times and roster guide, treat Goblin as a last-minute +1 when you boot the client.

Launch remains August 6

None of the SDCC news moved the ship date. PS5 and PC (Steam + Epic) on August 6, 2026. Physical Standard Edition still exists in supported markets — relevant if you are tracking Sony's 2028 disc cutoff, and still a separate issue from PSN regional blocks.

How this changes the buy decision

You are…What Phoenix Cyclops means
Beta-positive, undecided on buyYear 1 roadmap is real — not vapor
X-Men mainFirst DLC is your character fantasy; wait for kit details before Deluxe upsell panic
Wolverine fan crossing overFree Battle Reborn Sept 1 is a retention hook after Aug 6
Competitive onlyIgnore cosmetics; bookmark fall patch for real balance data
Region-blocked on PSNDLC does not fix account geography — read the PSN block post first

bunpav's blunt advice: do not buy Deluxe solely for Phoenix Cyclops until a gameplay trailer shows the Phoenix Force kit. Do buy Standard (or finish the beta) if the 4v4 fantasy already clicked. The pass is a hedge, not a personality. Fall 2026 will tell us whether Year 1 fighter one is a real meta shift or just a fiery costume with Optic Blast fireworks.

Editions, pass math, and when Deluxe is worth it

EditionApprox. priceWhy it matters for Phoenix Cyclops
Standard$59.99Launch roster only; buy Year 1 later if Cyclops cooks
Digital Deluxe$84.99Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass included
Ultimate$99.99Pass + extra costumes (including Spider-Man Advanced Suit 2.0)

The $25 gap from Standard to Deluxe is the real question. If you already main X-Men fantasy and trust Arc Sys season passes, Deluxe is insurance. If you are beta-curious and might bounce after a week, Standard + wait is the honest path. Phoenix Cyclops trailers without kit details are not enough reason to upsell every Marvel fan on the planet.

Also remember: Deluxe does not fix PSN account geography. A Year 1 fighter you cannot launch is still a brick.

Competitive angle — what lab players should watch for

Tag fighters live and die on assist density, screen clarity, and whether flashy DLC breaks neutral. Phoenix Force visuals risk the classic problem: beautiful trailers, unreadable tournament streams. Arc Sys knows that trap from its anime lineup; whether Marvel licensing pressure overrides clarity is the story to watch in fall patches.

Until a training-mode build exists, ignore tier-list YouTube. Bookmark:

  • Whether the new Year 1 stage favors or punishes 4v4 camera chaos

What should you do this weekend?

  1. Finish the open beta before July 26 11:59pm PT if you have not — last free look.
  2. Lab Green Goblin if he is new to your client build.
  3. Watch the Phoenix Cyclops trailer above; decide if the fantasy justifies Deluxe.
  4. Mark September 1 for Battle Reborn if you own or plan to own Tōkon at launch.
  5. Mark September 15 for Wolverine if the costume crossover is your Marvel completionist brain talking.
  6. Check regional PSN / Steam availability before pre-order if you live outside the happy path.
  7. Compare edition pages carefully — physical Standard vs digital Deluxe bundles differ by region.

DLC timing, voice credits, edition pricing, and beta roster notes are accurate as of publication (July 25, 2026). Verify PlayStation.Blog and Arc System Works channels for a narrower Phoenix Cyclops ship date, kit breakdown, and any Year 1 fighter order changes after launch.
